A coaster brake is a type of brake that activates when you pedal backwards. Also known as a backpedal brake. Coaster brakes are generally found on single speed bikes and kid's bikes. 

Advantages of these pedals are it's simplicity to use and maintain as fewer parts are required. They are also not affected by weather such as rain as it is internal. 

Disadvantages can be accidental braking, less stopping power and some users can find it a bit awkward to use.
